Nexus vs. Uni

Here’s a small table to compare Nexus with University so you can easily see (what I feel are) some of the key differences.

Nexus

Uni

Christ-centred Secular
35 hours / week 10-18 hours / week
Fees = £4,152 Fees = £5,000 +
Faith-based funding Government funding

At Nexus, we will receive:

  • Over 250 instrument lessons
  • 80 Band workshops
  • 150 Biblical Studies classes
  • Ministry Skills training
  • Live Performance experience
  • Song Writing experience

This means that we are in college at least 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. This gives us tons of time to spend on and around our instrument and getting help from our tutors and fellow students… but that’s not it! On top of our hours in college, we will also have to have sufficient band rehearsals (for the weekly projects), plus a recommended 2 hours’ practice on our instrument each night (consolidating classwork and experimenting with different sounds etc.) AND assignments to complete. In comparison to University, this is a LOT in one year. These stats show just how intense my year of training will be!

On the money side of things, £4,000 sounds like a lot for the course for one year. HOWEVER when you put it alongside Uni fees (which may touch £9,000 in the near future) it’s not so bad. The quantity and the quality of tutoring we get for this price is AMAZING. Effectively, we are getting more for our money.
